One because Ed is back!!! So awesome. He was the only one I liked. I don't even know why, but there's something about him that makes him stand out.

The second reason I can't get over the episode, of course, is that Wes stayed. What is Jillian thinking? I've lost total respect for her. You'd have to be an idiot not to realize he's on there for his music. That's all he does. If I have to hear her supposed song again, I'm gonna puke.

Not only are you warned; but rather than spend time with you, he plays with his band, hello, wake up call.

I'll say this, even if I liked his music, which I don't, I would never buy his album because he's a jerk. I am really surprised to see how many women he has in his family only to treat them like dirt.

The "L" Word says good-bye

Below is my post this time last year, before I knew The "L" Word's ending:

So the "L" Word is saying good-bye next season. That saddens me, but I do think maybe it is time. The story lines have went south for me and it just seems like they're going in circles.

I will miss "Shane" (Katherine Moennig) the most. I just wish she'd stayed with Carmen or that they will bring them back together for the last season. This whole I'm going good over a straight girl thing that they left it with, sucks.

Sometimes I think Shane is the only reason I watch. Lord knows it isn't Pam Grier, who, bless her heart, cannot act her way out of a paper bag. I did start to like the Max/Moira character but then they just pushed him/her to the side and for what I don't know. I just really can't express enough how much I don't like the direction the show took.

I also liked that they brought Marlee Matlin on because I'm learning sign language and I just have so much more respect for her and it was fun to watch her sign and be able to pick up on what's she saying without being told immediately. Bette and Tina need to be together though so Marlee's character has to go.

Jenny drives me crazy and I'm glad Shane screwed her over like Jenny screwed over all of her friends. Now, I'm ranting about it like it's real. The point is it will be sad to say good-bye but necessary before they completely butcher even the memory of a good show.

UPDATE: The "L" Word is now over and I have to say I'm sadder about it than I thought I would be. I'm not exactly sure why. The ending was really disappointing.

I guess we all have those shows we keep watching, even if we don't love the direction the show's going because we've followed it's storyline and it's characters so long. Lost is a prime example. If I hadn't watched the stupid thing so long now, I'd stop because it frustrates me more than anything.

I did like what happened to Jenny, but I don't think she and Shane should have hooked up. Again, I wanted Shane back with Carmen. Other than that, it was really lackluster. Too bad.

Ranting again: American Idol

I haven't ranted in awhile now. I thought I might have to change my blog name. Turns out I just had to wait for American Idol to start again. Oh man, where do I start?

First off, I cannot stand the new judge, Kara DioGuardi. I hate how she talks about things like her word is golden. Even more than Simon, she acts like everything she says is fact. I don't understand what she's adding to the show, except some possible drama. Let me tell you, I am sick of the drama. I want to watch people sing. If I want drama, I'll watch soap operas.

I have looked up some of the songs Kara's written on her site and she has some decent stuff--she needs to stick to that.

Secondly, I'm sick of Simon. I used to trust his opinion, but after bikini girl, forget about it. His opinion, to me, is no longer relevant. He's been doing this show long enough that he should know that it isn't all about looks anymore. American Idol allows us to get to know the singer's stories and personalities; because of that, the Ruben Studdards and the Clay Aikens of the world have a chance. So, don't insult us by throwing someone like bikini girl at us.

Now, I'm not saying she was horrible, but don't send her through and then say "no" to Nick Mitchell/ Norman Gentle. I'm speaking about Simon, of course. Luckily, the others have sent him through, as they should, because he can sing. Normally, I wouldn't think I would love someone so overly dramatic, but after he insulted Simon, he won me over. If he continues the way he's begun, I intend on voting for him all the way. Though, I do really like Danny Gokey too.

Oh don't worry, bikini girl will land on her feet. Apparently, she's going to pose in Playboy. Her father must be so proud, but something tells me he may not have had a big role in her life. If he had, maybe she wouldn't think she has to exploit herself the way she has. Talent is enough, no matter what Simon thinks.

Finally, we come to Tatiana Del Toro from Puerto Rico. The fact that she says "Puerto Rico" with an accent but nothing else is like a pet peeve for me. Either you have an accent or you don't.

Oh if that were the only thing that got on my nerves with this girl, but it's not even close. I don't know if I've ever seen someone so fake in my life. Like I, honestly, question if she's all there because no one acts like that. The scary thing is she'll probably stick around because of all those people out there who vote for the worst. Now, I don't know that her voice is bad, no one's should be bad at this point. I just can't stand to watch her long enough to hear her voice. I have to fast forward.

I don't know how I'm even going to get through this season. Hope it gets better, is all I can say.

What's Happening to Commercials?

I've had it, I have to say something about all these herpes commercials I see every day now. First off, if I have herpes, I'm just going to take what the doctor gives me. Why are they trying to sell us on what medicine to use. That goes for all these commercials telling us to ask our doctors about so and so. Hey, how `bout I just trust my doctor's opinion based on your medical degree and not give suggestions on what I think would be best based on a commercial?

Second, these herpes commercials actually say "I'm not going to let herpes slow me down". Well, maybe you should. Maybe your inability to slow down is what got you herpes in the first place. I don't know, it's just a guess. If I got herpes, I'm slowing to a stop and looking at my life a little, that's all I'm saying.

Then, on top of that, they have the partner(probably one of many) who comes on and says, "just because she has herpes doesn't mean I have to". Okay, so you're either a carrier or your girl is not so faithful. Either way, it's not good.

Another series of ridiculous commercials is the phone sex, I mean "call a friend" commercials. People you have to know the girls don't look like that right? Have you not seen the documentaries that are probably on at the same time on another channel showing the real girls who work at those things? It's false advertising but hey, what isn't nowadays?

One thing that isn't false advertising is the match making commercials where they show the rejects from the big match making services. "I just don't understand why they rejected me, but their loss is your gain. Meet me here, at www..." What the ...? Who is gonna want to meet these people? I'm guessing you were rejected for a reason and I don't want to find out what it is.

It's crazy. I think now that people have Tivo, advertisers think they can say what they want because no one's watching anyway. I only happen upon these in desperate times, when there is nothing on Tivo. Those are sad, sad times.

Dancing with the Stars

So this season of Dancing with the Stars has started and I can't believe it, but after a few seasons of protesting, I am watching again. Truth is, I don't like the show, but I like some of the people on this season--Rocco mainly. Still, I don't know if I can stomach a whole season.

The judges get on my nerves. I hardly ever agree with them and Bruno is just plain annoying. Then we have possibly the worst co-host ever, Samantha Harris. She's awkward and her interviews suck.

Of course, the reason why I stopped watching before was simply that they were letting people vote before the show was done. I feel like we should see everyone first or you're just admitting that it's about popularity vs. good dancers. If it is just about popularity than they shouldn't throw in these people who play sports and all that jazz because I have no clue who they are.

Anyway, that's my rant for today. I don't know that I'll keep watching because now I've just gotten myself all worked up about it, and I know anyone reading it will just say stop watching then and so I might. Thanks for the advice.

My Take on Prison Break

I started out watching Prison Break with my whole family and now most have stopped watching, which in itself is a pet peeve I'm developing. My husband, especially, likes to start shows with me and we'll each be very excited and then a few episodes in, he's over it. There I am, still excited, but with no one to talk to about it.

Anyway, so they stopped watching and now I'm on my own with it, except I still have this blog to talk about, or in this case, gripe about it. No, I don't care that the whole show is totally unbelievable. I don't care that someone so smart as Michael couldn't think of a better way to get his brother out of jail than to go to jail himself. A jail that he helped design. I don't care that he breaks out of that and then another only to break in to somewhere else. I don't even care that they pulled a soap opera move and brought a character who's supposed to be dead back on the show.

What I'm starting to care about is the fact that he wanted to save his brother so bad, he's willing to watch everyone else around him die. I mean maybe he should have let his brother die. Instead, his dad's dead, half the men he worked with are dead, all the people who help them are all dead. At some point, this supposed genius is going to have to question his choice here.

I know, we have to bring down "the Company" and I'm right there on the edge of my seat with everyone else who still watches. I'm just saying, there's been a lot of death to save one man.

Who Else Can't Stand Rachael Ray?

I cannot be the only one who is sickened by Rachael Ray and the fact that everyone else seems to think she's so great. The first time was when the contestants had a challenge to cut children's hair and a six year old girl said she wanted to be like Paris Hilton. Paris Hilton people. That's sad. It's sad that she even knows who she is frankly because I wouldn't let my children watch anything with that woman on it.

Why is she even famous? Is it because she has money and is a professional party-goer who people enjoy watching because she is a complete idiot and thus it makes us feel better about ourselves? I tell you what it's not. It's not because she is an outstanding human being who should be admired by little girls.

The second time that Shear Genius made me sad was the last episode where two girls came on saying they wanted to be like Britney Spears. Who's the one person more pathetic than Paris Hilton? Britney Spears.

It's so sad that these are the people we want to imitate. Personally, I don't find Britney's ponytail on top of the head, coming out of rehab with her tank top and huge sunglasses appealing. That's what she really looks like and yet we still hang on every moment of her life and hope that one day, we might be as lucky?

Not me. I change the channel anytime they come on which can be difficult considering they're everywhere. I'm just glad I have a boy.

I was just complaining about DIY's From Junky to Funky over on my blog, Green Alert and it reminded me of another decorating show I can't stand and that's HGTV's Decorating Cents. Every year, it just upsets me. Is it possible that my sense of humor is that off from the rest of America's? Apparently so because even from the beginning, I never agree with the people they choose to go thru. It is so much about characters and not about funny at all. Sean Cullen and God's Pottery are perfect examples of that.

Still, I've usually liked the winners, but Iliza Shlesinger. Really? Did no one see Marcus and his impression of Eddie Vedder and Def leppard? Come on, that was priceless. Meanwhile what does Iliza offer? Horrible impressions with that annoying voice and a bitchy attitude. No way people, America got it wrong. And yes, I did vote.

While Marcus may remind you of Dane Cook, who's comedy I love (his movies, not so much), Iliza wasn't original either. I could have done a funnier set than her.

If not Marcus, I think Jeff Dye should have taken it. Disappointing, to say the least.

Shear Genius Goes Green

Yes, I watch Bravo's Shear Genius. It's definitely not something I ever thought I would like, but much like cooking and fashion shows, I was won over. Why? I do not know. I don't get my hair done a lot and I'm not into trends, nor am I a big cook. I'm not very girlie really.

The experiences I have had in salons haven't been good. A few years back I had a horrible salon experience at Beauty Warehouse on Barry Road in Kansas City, MO, not Kansas. This was before I had a blog to complain, but the experience stayed with me and I intend to take full advantage of my blog now.

Whatever you do, do not go to Beauty Warehouse. I went for a body perm because my hair is ridiculously straight and I can't do anything with it the way it is. Finally, I decided I would try this even though I don't like putting chemicals on my hair, which may be a contributing reason why I can't do much with it. I thought this might give it enough body that I wouldn't have to do much but that it would be better than just lying there.

After 2 hours, I leave with my hair damp and it looks wavy enough; but by the time I got home, it was completely flat again. Still, I thought let's see what it does the next day...still nothing. So, I end up going back and saying that it didn't take and asking what we could do. Without any provocation, the manager jumps down my throat and starts yelling at me, saying that because I didn't use their shampoo, they wouldn't guarantee it. I say to her, first, stop yelling at me; second, no one told me I had to use their shampoo and third, that's ridiculous. Even the stylist thought the manager was rude.

Anyway, after much debate, she tells me my only choice was to come back the next day and re-do it, but that I had to buy their shampoo. I refused because the last thing I needed was straight, damaged hair. So, I went on and have come to terms with my hair the way it is, but I just wanted to warn any of you out there who might have a Beauty Warehouse near you.

That aside, this week, on Shear Genius, they did a "green" challenge, where they had to use organic products in their clients hair. I thought it was great. Mind you, I probably won't be attempting any of those things myself, but I don't use environmentally harmful products either, so no worries. Catch the re-runs if you can. It was interesting to say the least.

So You Think You Can Dance

I'm a big fan of So You Think You Can Dance but I've got one major problem, aside from Mary and her stupid "hot tamale train". No, my problem is wardrobe selection. Specifically, who's dressing Cat Deeley?

Now, I'm not a fashionista or anything but her clothes epitomize gaudy to me. What is she 6 foot 10 or something ridiculous and they dress her in these short outfits that make her look like even more of a giant. Honestly, the clothes look too small and she just ends up looking like a little girl.

Don't get me wrong, I really like her but her clothes bug me. Will is by far my favorite. He seems to be in a completely different league from the other dancers.

I like Mark's uniqueness. He can be manly and soft, unlike some of the guy dancers in the past who have just been too feminine for me.

Katee would be my pick for the girls. That's putting aside her attitude in the beginning. While I could understand the process being so gruelling that you may not want to go through it again, you'd have to be an idiot to tell the judges you wouldn't do it again when you know that there are dancers out there who want it so bad they'd go through it as many times as it took.

The Baby Borrowers: Entertaining and Educational

The Baby Borrowers premiered June 25th. For those who don't know, the premise is this:

NBC's reality series "The Baby Borrowers" is an intriguing new social experiment based on the hit British program that asks five diverse teenage couples -- ages 18-20 -- to fast-track to adulthood by setting up a home, getting a job and becoming caring parents first to babies, toddlers, pre-teens and their pets, teenagers and senior citizens -- all over the course of three weeks.
At first, I couldn't understand why the parents would hand their babies over to these teens, but the parents actually get to monitor the couples and step in when they need to. There is also a person in the home who watches in case of an emergency. Once I learned that, I was at ease and ready to watch the drama unfold. That it did. These kids had no idea what they were in for.

First, they show the couples giving their comments about how easy they think it will be, with visions of playing house in their pubescent minds. Then, the first day, one girl breaks down because she doesn't want to wear a pregnancy suit. Another tells a baby he can just starve because he isn't eating, only to be confronted with the child's mother who tells the girl that's not how it works. It was pretty entertaining to say the least.

Entertainment aside, I just can't say enough about how good of an idea I think this is. I mean when we have cases of young girls forming pregnancy pacts like that in the Massachusetts High School, then I think it's time we do something to really address the issue of teen pregnancy. Heck, I'm 30 with my first baby and it's pretty overwhelming. I can't imagine doing this in my teens.

The next episode is on July 2nd 9/8C. I suggest you tune in, especially if you have teens. Make sure they watch. It's educational, believe me.

The Bachelorette: Final 4

So I watched The Bachelorette yesterday. I'm a day late, as usual, because my husband doesn't want to watch it (go figure) so I wait til he's at work. DeAnna was down to her final 4 guys. Not that it matters because it probably won't work out with any of them and I really should focus on more important things, but here is what I think:

JEREMY is the guy who shares her pain of losing a parent. He, apparently, has lost both. I can't even imagine. I have, however, lost my father. So I understand how it could create a very strong bond between two people; though I don't know because my husband has not shared that experience.

While he seems the best fit for her, Jeremy has already admitted that he doesn't have time for a social life. So I don't know how he thinks he's ready to take on a full-blown relationship and possible marriage. On a personal note, I think he's boring, but that's me.

JESSE is the opposite of boring, but is so not someone DeAnna could settle down with long term. He's the snowboarder who is proving to be one of the nicer guys, but they're just too different.

JASON hasn't really shown much of who he is other than a father. DeAnna says that doesn't bother her and I give her credit for that because I don't think I could date someone with a kid. Not because of the kid but because I wouldn't want to deal with an ex.

GRAHAM is by far the one she had the most sexual chemistry with, but that's all there was. He didn't open up at all and so she let him go. She had to really because she would have been a complete hypocrite to have kept him considering she made such a big deal out of being open to the process.

After all's said and done, I don't think she has a good option for what she seems to want, nor do I think she ever did out of the men they had on the show.

Battlestar Galactica & Hot Fuzz: Surprise! Surprise!

It might surprise you to learn that I am a Battlestar Galactica fan. Typically, this would not be my cup of tea. I'm definitely not a huge sci-fi fan. I started watching it with my husband and, before I knew it, I got pulled in.

For those who don't watch, it's a show about cylon machines vs. humans in space, trying to find earth. That's a very short summary but it's the best I can do. Odds are if you don't watch it, you probably don't care anyway, but I'm telling you, you missed out. It really is jammed packed, edge of your seat, what are they going to do next entertainment.

Edward James Olmos (not my favorite) and Lucy Lawless are probably the best known stars, but the whole cast is good. English born actor, Jamie Bamber plays American Apollo. This is something I don't understand. If you need someone with an American accent, why not hire an American? Yes, I'm referring to you too, "House".

To me, this is no different than when white men played Native Americans in movies or having John Leguizamo play a little person in Moulin Rouge. If I was a little person actor I would have been peeved about that myself. But I digress. Bamber plays a great Apollo, but it's just a quandary to me is all.

Another surprise, to me, is that I watched Hot Fuzz the other day, again for my husband's sake. Again, I found that I liked it. This is after seeing Shaun of the Dead, by the same people, and not liking it. Thus, I was sure I wouldn't like this either but I was wrong.

It is supposed to be a action movie spoof/comedy. I don't know that I thought it was hilarious or anything but it was entertaining. I would cut back on the gore if I were them. It's unnecessary. The movie was good without it.

I have been watching a lot, and I mean a lot of movies lately and this one held my attention which is more than most of the other garbage I've subjected myself to.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://rnrreviews.blogspot.com/2008/06/battlestar-galactica-hot-fuzz-surprise.html' title='Battlestar Galactica & Hot Fuzz: Surprise! First, I was thinking it was going to be another Godzilla. Didn't like Godzilla and don't want to see another. This was more like War of the Worlds, though it was never said that the creatures in this movie were aliens. In fact, it didn't explain them at all. Suddenly they're there and then we're following these people through the city, trying to rescue some girl, while everyone else, in their right mind, is trying to leave.

My problem with this is that they tried to make it seem like some love story about this guy who's about to leave the country and so he hadn't even had a real relationship with this girl, didn't care about her enough to take her with him, but then risks his and his friends lives trying to find her. Meanwhile, their families could be dead for all they know, but hey, let's worry about this girl; who, when they get there find she is only hit in the shoulder. The shoulder people. Somehow she was well enough to get ahold of her cell phone and call the guy but can't get out of the building because of her shoulder. If you can't help yourself in that situation, you deserve to die. If I had gone through what they did to find her there like that, I might have killed her myself. Of course, I wouldn't have been so stupid as to go after her.

Secondly, the movie was done by the producers of Lost. I am so frustrated with this show it makes me wish I'd never started watching it. Not only do I not believe that the writers even know what's going on, but they keep taking these huge breaks in between episodes. Is this show not hard enough to follow already? Out of principle I want to stop watching but I can't because you only watch this show to figure out what will happen in the end. So if I stop watching before then, all these years would have been wasted. That and I do enjoy watching Desmond. Forget Sawyer, he's good-looking, but I love an accent myself.

Don't even get me started on Hurley and Kate. Hurley, lose some weight. I get there's food on the island but not that much. You would have lost some weight by now. Kate, you're not B.A. so stop tromping along with the guys, acting like you are. It's ridiculous.

I thought I'd feel better if I got that out of my system, but nope, still don't.

Reality Shows: Past, Present and Future

So tonight's the American Idol finale. Although I would like David Cook to win, I didn't waste my time voting this year. Both David's will get record deals either way and, frankly, both deserve it. I've always said David Archuleta is not my thing, but I can't deny that he can sing.

I don't know that I agreed with Simon last night in saying that Archuleta out did Cook. I actually loved Cook's second song that Simon hated. I didn't care for the Collective Soul song he did, but I didn't like the original either.

I'm really not sure who I think will win tonight but I'm going to say Cook will take it. Even Simon said that Cook deserves it over Archuleta because he's paid his dues. Archuleta's only 17 and will have plenty of opportunities. That is, if his controlling father doesn't ruin it for him.

I started watching ABC's The Bachelorette with DeAnna Pappas on Monday. I had actually watched every season of the Bachelor/Bachelorette, but stopped in the midst of The Bachelor with Brad Womack and DeAnna. I didn't care for him and decided I was only going to watch The Bachelorette from now on. Why do I want to watch a bunch of women with only one guy? Instead I'll watch 15 guys and hopefully like one of them. This season though, is slim pickings. There is a guy from my home, KC, but he's a hairdresser. The only other guy that stands out id the "dorky" science guy. When he puts his glasses on, he's pretty sexy. I'm not sure what happens when he takes them off but he really shouldn't do that.

Whitney Thompson won America's Next Top Model Cycle 600 or whatever it is. Now everyone's saying she only won because they wanted a plus size or "full figured" girl to win. I say, she's beautiful and it's about time. Even if Tyra chose her to serve a bigger purpose, it needed to be done and good for Tyra. I say that and I don't even like Tyra Banks.

More than anything else right now, I'm so excited to hear that The Mole is coming back. I'm not sure why it ever left but I loved that show. My husband and I were on vacation, in a restaurant, and realized it was coming on and we had them wrap our food to go because we loved that show so much. This was before we had Tivo to record everything.

American Idol: new voting system needed

I do not understand why American Idol doesn't have us vote for the person we want off each week instead of the person we like best. There are weeks when I'm not sure who I like best, but I usually have a very easy time deciding who should go. This week, Jason Castro needs to go and I say that as a person who likes Jason.

I just don't think his heart is in the competition. I don't think that he's mature enough to realize the opportunity he's being given and to take advantage of it. Like last night, for instance, he did Bob Marley. Bob Marley songs are great because they're done by him and because of their message. Not every young kid with dreads can do Bob Marley.

Speaking of someone trying to take on something beyond them, Syesha did Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come". A song written about the civil rights movement and she actually compared it to what she's going through on American Idol. Wow, I don't have the words to describe how ridiculous that is.

I think it's definitely got to come down to the two Davids now.

Tuesday Night line-up

Tuesday nights have become one of the better nights for tv as far as I'm concerned. First with American Idol and then Hell's Kitchen. I just love Gordon Ramsay and I'm guessing maybe it's for the same reasons why people seem to love Simon Cowell. There's just something appealing about a person who knows what they're talking about especially when we're bombarded by so many idiots on tv these days.

I like Ramsay more than Cowell because I don't know that I always agree with Simon. Two prime examples: Il Divo and Leona Lewis, who he helped discover. They're really not my thing.

Gordon Ramsay, however, knows his stuff. If I were wanting to be a chef and was lucky enough to end up studying under him, I'd listen to every word. Unlike some of the people who get on his shows and act like they know better. That, or like season 1's winner, Michael who was given the opportunity to work for Chef Ramsay and ended up flaking out on him. I can't even imagine giving up that opportunity. Oh well, I'm babbling, but that just blew my mind.

Last night, on American Idol, it was Neil Diamond night. Neil Diamond, now that's great stuff! I'm not a die-hard fan, but I enjoy Neil Diamond music when it comes on the radio.

I thought David Cook out-shined the others, yet again. I'm sorry but Brooke White and Jason Castro need to step it up. They seem to have fallen into a rut. Jason may have given up all together.

As it is right now, it looks like it's going to come down to David Cook and David Archuleta. I guess we'll see.

NBC's ER ~ Hospital Dramas and Soap Operas

Word on the street is that the tv show, ER is finally coming to an end. I am surprised, however, to hear that it is still on. I could have sworn it ended 10 years ago, when I stopped watching it. So, to find out that it will have gone 15 seasons before it's end is crazy to me. All I can say is thank goodness for House and Grey's Anatomy, or who knows what ER fans would do now.

Personally, I'm sick of all the hospital dramas and law dramas too for that matter. I've watched House and it is what it is. I won't say anything bad about it or my sister would kill me. I don't really have anything bad to say. It's just not my thing.

I watched Grey's Anatomy up until the whole Isaiah Washington thing. The fact that they kept him on the show for as long as they did after what he said about his co-star, T.R. Knight, that turned me off the show forever.

Like I said, I even liked ER for awhile but it turned into a soap opera with characters that changed every week and the original cast is what made the show for me.

I gave up my daytime soap operas too. I used to watch all the ABC soaps, including Loving, which isn't on anymore. The Nico & Cecily storyline was the best. Nico was played by Maurice Benard, who now plays Sonny Corinthos on General Hospital, another soap I used to watch. In fact, I named my son Jax, a character played by Ingo Rademacher on the show. It's not why I named my son that but it definitely went through my mind when I thought of it.

I also watched All My Children, but the hardest soap opera for me to give up was One Life To Live. Though, I have to say it was much easier after the original Todd Manning, Roger Howarth, left the show. Still, I hung on for quite awhile after that, hoping he'd come back I guess. It didn't happen and now I think he's on As the World Turns. If he were to come back to OLTL, then who knows, they might win back a fan.

I could just watch him on his current show but it was really the combo of him playing that character and following it from the beginning. Oh well, it's probably for the best. This all fits into my quest to stop watching so much tv.

America screws up another one on American Idol

First Michael Johns now Carly. Not only should Carly Smithson have stayed last night; she, nor Syesha, should have even been in the bottom. I'm afraid to say it but Jason Castro or Brooke White should have been the ones to leave.

I like Jason alot but he tried to take on Memories, a song sung passionately by Barbra Streisand, and he murdered it. I don't think he got what the song was about, the emotion of it and thus he shouldn't have tried to take it on.

Brooke, Paula was absolutely right, you have stopped and started 2 songs now and you can't do that. I have never been to a show where a professional has done that, never! Randy and Simon should have backed Paula on that one. The one time Paula says something without sugar coating and they left her out to dry. Even Brooke knew she should have been in the bottom.

Thankfully, my husband reminded me that this happens every year, where the wrong people get sent home, and they still get record deals and everything works out. There can only be one winner and that's got to be David Cook.

American Idol Michael Johns & the top 7

I haven't posted sooner because frankly, I'm still in shock over Michael Johns departure last week. I know that people have to go, but the fact that he left before Kristy Lee Cook and Syesha just doesn't seem fair. I'm just hoping one of them leaves this week to balance things for me.

Still, I'm sure Michael Johns will go on to have a great career. I know I'll be ready when his CD comes out.

Now, I guess I'll have to put all my support behind David Cook to win it. He's the only one... now that I can see myself listening to once he's off the show. True, he just slows down every song with a big note towards the end to make it his own, but I like it. It's not genius but it's him and it's far better than what everyone else is doing.

Oprah, The Big Give & John Travolta

So, I heard John Travolta was on Oprah's The Big Give. How about you get together with Oprah when she's doing all her shows on going green; and maybe you can learn a thing or two about how harmful the joyrides in your private jets are to our planet.

Related Posts: Oprah & The Big Give

American Idol top 8

My rundown for last night looks like this:

Michael Johns- For two weeks in a row now, he's been my favorite. However, I do agree with Simon when he says that he likes Michael singing more soulful music. He seems to be drawn towards these huge rock songs and he did great on Aerosmith's Dream On last night but I liked the more heartfelt Dolly Parton song to be honest.
Syesha Mercado- I agreed with Randy on this one. She sung Fantasia's I Believe and did a decent job but there's something about her that is missing for me. I can't put my finger on it because she's pretty, she has stage presence, and she can sing. I just always feel like she falls short somewhere.
Jason Castro- I have always liked Jason but I feel like he needs to stretch a little more to show range or I think he'll go soon. That would be a shame because I think that with some guidance, he could make a good album.
Kristy Lee Cook- I don't care what she sings, she needs to go. I'm at a point now I just fast forward through her part.
David Cook- He did an song and I love Our Lady Peace but didn't love his take on it. I completely agreed, yet again, with Simon that the look was wrong and he is coming off as being pompous. I hate that because I want him to win. I just hope the good feedback isn't going to his head.
Carly Smithson- She did Queen's Show Must Go On, which is a tall order, but I liked it. I think she's taking this seriously and she's in it to win it.
David Archuleta- He did Robbie Williams Angels last night. He is consistently good but he's just not my thing.
Brooke White- She did James Taylor's, You Got A Friend. I don't love that song but I liked her version.

Oprah and her interesting topics: Pregnant Man

Dang, I'm trying to boycott Oprah, but it's hard to do sometimes, especially when she has topics like men having babies. I actually hadn't heard about this because I don't read magazines much and I don't watch the news much either. I know you're wondering how I survive. Well, I have my reasons for this.

1. I don't read magazines because I am sick to death of hearing about Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton and all of the rest of them. They are bad role-models for our youth and I think they should be shunned not fawned over.

2. Magazines are wasteful and I'm all about going green. You can read more about that on my blog, Green Alert.

3. I do not watch the news because I think it breeds paranoia and I think it's hard to stay in a positive state of mind when all you watch is negativity. Now, I'm not perfect, by no means, I do fall prey to reality tv even though I know it's does nothing good for me. It's a habit I find hard to break.

That being said, back to Oprah's show on a transgender male, Thomas Beatie, becoming pregnant. Like I said, I hadn't heard of this so I wasn't sure what was going on and so I broke down and watched.

At first, I thought it was selfish to have a child when that kid would have to grow up with the knowledge that it was their "dad" who gave birth to them. Then they explained that the "mother" couldn't have children and I totally understood. I once worried that I wouldn't be able to have children and it was devastating. So, more power to them.

It will be hard but the child is who's important here. The situation is what it is and now they'll need support from society. I was shocked, by the way, to hear that the transgender community was against them coming out with the story. I just wouldn't have thought that they would want to keep their issues in the dark. Society can't learn to accept the things we don't know exist. Of course, I'm not in the situation so maybe I don't understand their reasoning.
