ABOUT ME

My Blogs allow me to rant and rave about movies, scrapbooking, motherhood, saving money, and whatever else I'd like. I'm finding it to be a great release for me. I hope that others enjoy it as well.

Product Reviews: diapers & cereal
So, I've been trying quite a few things that I might not have had I not gotten them free or close to it. I thought I should share my thoughts.

I typically eat Honey Bunches of Oats as my cereal of choice and I tend to like the "bunches". So, I was sure I would like Just Bunches. While I like it, I don't love it. Turns out you need the other stuff in there to balance it out. It's just too much bunches.

Now, sure, I'd buy it again if it were free with coupons, but it's not my favorite.

On the other hand, I did like Kellogg's Smart Start Antioxidants Cereal. However, I did not like the Maple & Brown Sugar kind. Not to worry, it didn't go to waste. I gave it to my mom and she liked it. I'm just pretty simple when it comes to food. I'm not a maple and Brown Sugar girl I guess.

Wow, LiveActive, where do I begin? It's not that it's bad per say, but it's pretty bland and verrrrry crunchy. You are not having a conversation with anyone while eating this cereal because it takes a long time to chew all of the texture that is in your mouth at one time.

I just keep telling myself that it's good for me and it makes me feel better. I have considered adding some Just Bunches to add flavor, but I don't think my teeth could handle it.

Now, on a different note, Diapers. I prefer Pampers over anything but with all the great deals at Walgreens and things, I've been trying other options.

Walgreens diapers are actually pretty good. They're not too different than Huggies from what I can tell. I haven't had any problems. The only thing is that they run small, so I had to buy the next size up. Luckily someone told me that ahead of time, but I'm sure they'd let you exchange them if you get the wrong size.

I would not suggest anyone buy CVS Explorers Diapers. I hated them! They are hard to work with. They don't fit well around the legs, causing a lot of leakage unless you really fix them just right. It's too bad because I know they are a good deal sometimes, but it's just not worth it in this case.

See my post on Pampers points and my Pampers review here.
Walgreens Deals: July 20-26 & Much More
Walgreens has a deal for free diapers that's been running all July but I'm a little late to post. It all hinges on whether you can get the prescription savings booklet at the pharmacy area. You'll have to ask for it.

Get that coupon and then buy 3 packages of Walgreens Jumbo diapers, on sale this week for $5.99 each.
Use $2/1 coupon from the booklet (it should take $2 off each pack, for a total of $6).
Then, use the $5/2 coupon found in July's EasySaver booklet (that should take $2.50 off each pack, for a total of $7.50) .
You spend $4.47 but get $5 in Register Reward back (advertised in the July EasySaver booklet). Making the deal FREE! I will say that I like these diapers much better than the CVS brand. They seem to run a little small though. So you may want to get the next size up.

Walgreens also has some school supplies for $0.05!

Batman: The Dark Knight & Hellboy II
Wow! I don't know how many ways you can say awesome but it wouldn't be enough to describe this movie. I, honestly, do not believe anyone walked out of that theater disappointed with any part of this movie. The story was good, the action was good, the directing was good, the acting was amazing.

Heath Ledger, God rest his soul, deserves an Oscar for his performance as one of the most disturbing Jokers; and one of the most disturbing villains ever, for that matter, in any movie, comic related or not.

This, unlike most Batman movies, really revolves around the Joker more than Batman himself. It's not about the fancy gadgets or the well choreographed fight scenes. It really is about the insanity that is the Joker.

I'm going to be honest and say that I didn't know about Heath Ledger playing the part when I first heard it; and then, when he passed, I didn't know if I even wanted to see it because I thought it would be to bitter sweet. I am just so glad that I went, I saw and I was amazed. Just like with his performance in Brokeback, Heath proved that he is/was more than a pretty face.

I'm not sure what they're going to do with the 3rd movie, whether they'll bring in a new actor, or write the Joker out altogether. I just can't imagine anyone else playing it as well.

I don't love the Hellboy movies, but I think the first was better than the second. I liked the bad guy in the first better. They changed things in the second movie, for what reasons I don't know. Voices were different, the look was different. There were some cheesy scenes with Hellboy as a child.

I'm guessing that if you liked the first, you'll probably like this one too. I just thought it was okay. Nothing great.

So You Think You Can Dance
I'm a big fan of So You Think You Can Dance but I've got one major problem, aside from Mary and her stupid "hot tamale train". No, my problem is wardrobe selection. Specifically, who's dressing Cat Deeley?

Now, I'm not a fashionista or anything but her clothes epitomize gaudy to me. What is she 6 foot 10 or something ridiculous and they dress her in these short outfits that make her look like even more of a giant. Honestly, the clothes look too small and she just ends up looking like a little girl.

Don't get me wrong, I really like her but her clothes bug me. I cannot be the only one.

As far as the dancers go, here's my picks:

At first, I thought it would put me off of liking Will because he trained with Debbie Allen, but it hasn't. Will is by far my favorite. He seems to be in a completely different league from the other dancers.

I like Mark's uniqueness. He can be manly and soft, unlike some of the guy dancers in the past who have just been too feminine for me.

Katee would be my pick for the girls. That's putting aside her attitude in the beginning. While I could understand the process being so gruelling that you may not want to go through it again, you'd have to be an idiot to tell the judges you wouldn't do it again when you know that there are dancers out there who want it so bad they'd go through it as many times as it took.

Across the Universe and why I prefer the 50's
So, I watched Across the Universe with it's interesting take on the 60's. I thought it was very well done. The director, casting, the actors, all did a great job. It was very Moulin Rouge-like in that it was a bazaar take on a musical.

However, the whole time I'm watching it, just like when I watch old movies, I'm wishing I'd been alive in the 50's. Having been born in the late 70's, I know most people my age would have wanted to experience the 60's with the whole sex, drugs and rock-n-roll thing, but not me.

I long for a simple time when family values meant something. A time when divorce rates weren't 50% and kids weren't killing kids. A time when people like Paris Hilton would be embarrassed of her behavior, not put up on a pedestal for young kids to look up to.

I want to know what it's like to live in a world where you can leave your door unlocked and pick up hitchhikers without worrying that they're going to kill you. I want to live in a time when men were men and women were women. I know that may sound strange because women fought so hard for equality, but did we win, really?

Sure, now women can work but it's not a choice so much as a requirement. Most households need two incomes to survive, leaving kids to be raised by babysitters in a world where you can't trust anyone. If you want to work, that's great; but think of all the women who'd like to be able to stay home with their kids and can't. It's sad.

I'm lucky because I do get to stay home, but I had to tailor my life to make that happen. I started working from home straight out of college so that when the time came that I did have children, I would have a stable enough position that I could stay home and still bring in an income.

As it is right now, I'm able to take a break from working so that I can focus more on my baby. In the meantime, my husband and I pinch our pennies, never living beyond our means and we're okay with that. Our priority has always been family over material things.

The 80's were all about material things with yuppies and Wall Street. Personally, I loved being a teenager, living right outside Seattle during the 90's. Grunge made it cool to be poor in a sense. I didn't have the pressures of having to buy name brand clothes and $200 shoes.

Now, well now Bush is in office and this decades been a disaster. All I can do is hope for something better to come in the future. Still, I'll hold onto my dreams of living in the 50's.

Love Guru & Hancock Movie Reviews
I don't know what to think of this movie. It comes off as a comedy in the previews, but it takes a strange and unexpected turn. I say unexpected, but the truth is I don't know what I did think would happen in the movie. I guess I just thought maybe I'd get some laughs out of it. The previews show the funniest parts though so don't go if that's what you're wanting. Again, I don't know what to tell you is a good reason for seeing it. It's not that it's bad, just different.

I'm a huge Mike Myers fan and so I had high hopes but I was left very disappointed. First of all, I'm sick of Verne Troyer. Second, I could have done without Jessica Alba as well. That aside, I thought the jokes were unnecessarily dirty and redundant.

It's too bad because I think the character is a good one and I know Mike Myers can do much better. It won't stop me from seeing his films to come but let's just hope this was a fluke.
